If you caught our Behind the Scenes article about the first cohort of our internship program, then you already got a sneak peek into how it all began. (If not, you might want to check it out here, it’s a good one!)

Fast forward a few months, and a lot has changed. Our interns have gone from new faces to fully integrated team members doing some pretty impressive work. They’ve sat in on meetings, handled real projects, shared ideas, and added fresh energy to our workflow.

In this article, we’re going a bit more up-close and personal. We sat down with some of our interns to get the scoop on what a typical day looks like for them. So, whether you’re thinking of joining our next internship cohort or you’re just curious about what life is like behind the scenes at Aptiw, you’re in for a treat.

Let’s dive in!

A Typical Workday

We asked our interns, Gabby and Gift, to give us a little peek into their daily routines. Here’s what they had to say.

Q: Hi Gabby! What does a typical work day look like for you?

Gabby (Social Media Management Intern): I usually start by signing in and diving straight into my tasks. I support our Social Media Manager with managing content, and I also help out with shooting videos. Once that’s done, I spend some time learning through online courses before wrapping up for the day.

Q: Nice! How about you, Gift?

Gift (Software Development Intern): My workday begins with reviewing my previous day’s tasks and checking Slack for new assignments. Then I get into coding or debugging, depending on what’s on my plate. I usually take a short break somewhere in the middle of the day to rest or chat with teammates, then continue working.

Growth Beyond The Role

Q: We know you’ve been learning a ton in social media and software development, but outside of that, are there any other skills you’ve picked up along the way?

Gift: Teamwork. I’ve learned how to collaborate better; sharing ideas, giving and receiving feedback, and focusing on team goals instead of just individual wins. It’s made me more open to different perspectives and ways of working.

Gabby: Time management, for sure! Juggling this internship alongside running a small business and handling personal projects taught me how to prioritize. It wasn’t easy at first, but learning to set realistic goals helped me avoid burnout and stay on track.

Let’s Talk Challenges…

Q: You’ve both been doing amazing work, but like with any growth journey, we know it hasn’t always been smooth sailing. If you’re open to sharing, what would you say has been the most challenging part of your internship so far?

Gabby: Coming up with content ideas consistently has been tough, and imposter syndrome sometimes creeps in. I wanted to use this internship to build my skills publicly, but putting myself out there hasn’t been easy. Still, I’m not giving up… I’ll keep trying.

Gift: For me, it’s been learning new frameworks or libraries and applying them to real projects within tight timelines. It has pushed me outside my comfort zone, but it’s also helped sharpen my skills as a developer.

And now… Proud moments

Q: Since we’ve touched on the challenges, it’s only right we shine a light on some of the amazing work you’ve done during the internship. What’s been your proudest moment so far?

Gabby: Seeing one of my content ideas kind of go viral on social media! It felt so good knowing I contributed something valuable to both the team and our audience. It also gave me a much-needed confidence boost, proof that all the learning is paying off.

Gift: My proudest moments are usually when I finish building a project that solves real-life problems. One standout was a travel booking website I built, it felt great knowing I created something that could make life easier for people.

Team Culture

Q: Describe the team culture in 3 words

Gift: I’d say collaborative, transparent, and growth-oriented. Everyone works closely together and supports each other, communication is open and honest, and there’s a strong emphasis on learning and development through mentorship and feedback.

Gabby: Mine would be supportive, collaborative, and growth-driven. Looks like Gift and I both agree on how collaborative and growth-focused the team is, and it really shows in how we work day to day.

What They Wish They Knew Before Starting

We asked our interns to share one thing they wished they had known before joining the program. Think of it as a little advice from them to future interns (or anyone starting a new journey).

Gabby: I wish I knew it wasn’t going to be easy… But then again, no good thing ever is, right? At first, I felt like I had to be “ready” before I could contribute, but the truth is: you don’t. You’ll make mistakes, feel unsure, maybe even burn out. But speak up, ask questions, and trust the process. Also, having a supportive team matters more than you think. I’m so grateful for mine. If I can do it, you can too!

Gift: I wish I had learned React before starting. For anyone looking to intern as a developer, having a good grasp of a framework or library like React makes things much easier. It gives you a strong foundation and helps you hit the ground running, instead of feeling like you’re scrambling to catch up when you join a team.

Final Thoughts

A huge thank you to Gabby and Gift for letting us peek into what a typical day looks like for them as interns at Aptiw. It’s been amazing watching them grow, tackle real projects, and bring fresh ideas to the team.
